A growing population with improving living standards leads to a constant rise in the world's energy requirements. Meeting these increasing energy needs while reducing the causes of climate change is a major challenge for our society. Chemistry plays an indispensable role in providing new and sustainable solutions that can help achieve this.

Marco Mensink
DG - CEFIC
Marco Mensink is Director General of Cefic, the European chemical industry, since May 2016. Before joining Cefic, Mr Mensink was Director General of the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI), representing the sector both at European and global level.
Starting his career at Ernst & Young Management Consulting, he worked for six years in environmental management and due diligence projects. He then worked for six years at the Royal Netherlands' Paper and Board Association, also representing the Dutch industry in Brussels. Marco Mensink holds a Master of Science Degree in Forestry and Business Management from the Agricultural University of Wageningen in the Netherlands.
